A Halloween to Remember

I’m not sure what was more frightening this Halloween—the costumes we saw or the fierce competition between neighbours for our house decorating contest!

It really makes you wonder: is Halloween still a kids' holiday, or have we adults taken over? If you grew up trick-or-treating in the suburbs, you know that the best hauls come from a tight community full of people with great taste and limited stairs to climb. And when you dump out that bag at the end of the night, you may see full-size chocolate bars and imported European hard candies. That’s how you know you've entered the secret garden aka Towns On Curzon!

This Halloween was extra special, the big finale after months of planning. And it wasn’t just the kids brainstorming costume ideas—the parents put in the hard work, making sure those costumes were show-stoppers. We had nearly 20 townhouses in our outdoor decorating competition, and the competition was fierce. The winning house? It wasn’t just decorated; it was a Keefe and Kimmie's full-blown Griswold-style production, complete with a light show and a smoke machine. Talk about raising the bar for next year!

We also ran a costume contest with categories for babies, kids, and adults. The adult winner was a no-brainer: Dan and Shayne dressed as Wayne and Garth from *Wayne’s World*—party on! Special mentions go to Nic in his inflatable rooster suit and Emil, who absolutely nailed it as Cruella de Vil, complete with his daughter, Noa, as the cutest little Dalmatian sidekick.

The best baby costume award went to baby Maya, who stole the show as Raygun, the Australian breakdancing sensation. And we can’t forget Cole, celebrating his first Halloween as Big Bird. He got tired and didn't quite make it to the judging in full costume, but hey, he still looked adorable.

As for the kids' category? The costumes were so good that our judges couldn’t choose a winner. So, we did what any community would do—we scrapped picking just one and decided to host a pizza party for all the kids at Towns On Curzon. Because, really, who doesn’t love a pizza party?

This year, we also had the #NoTricksJustTreats truck from Mars Wrigley roll through Curzon the next day! It gave everyone the chance to swap unwanted "tricks" for their favourite Mars treats. Mars Wrigley took it a step further. For every pound of unwanted candy collected, they donated a dollar to Food Banks Canada. Not only did we indulge in some favourite treats, but we got to feel great knowing that every bit added up to help those in need.

In the end, Halloween was exactly what it should be—full of laughter, candy, friendly competition, and that unbeatable community spirit. Another year, another batch of amazing memories. Here’s to the next year!
