Leslieville History
Leslieville originated in the 1850s as a humble village named after the Toronto Nurseries owned by George Leslie and Sons. Primarily inhabited by market gardeners and brick making companies' workers, the village structure included the Leslieville Public School established in 1863. This school's first principal, Alexander Muir, composed "The Maple Leaf Forever" inspired by a falling maple leaf in Leslieville, a significant moment in Canadian history now commemorated at Laing Street and Memory Lane intersection.
Curzon Parkette
As a contribution to our community, we donated part of our land to the city, creating Curzon Parkette—a welcoming space for neighbours to connect and enjoy together.
